ES/ PARA LEVANTAR UN SANTUARIO HAY QUE DESTRUIR UN SANTUARIO
Esta acción en espacio público cierra una serie de ejercicios que reflexionan sobre la forma del bolardo como figura de poder masculino inscrita en la ciudad. El título retoma una frase de La genealogía de la moral: “Para levantar un santuario hay que destruir un santuario”.
La acción consiste en intentar destruir un bolardo de concreto mediante una secuencia insistente de martillazos. El cuerpo se entrega a la tarea de derribar el objeto sin lograr alterarlo. No se produce ningún efecto material: el bolardo permanece inmóvil, intacto e indiferente.
La obra aborda el esfuerzo sin fruto y el desgaste físico y simbólico que implica enfrentarse a estructuras endurecidas por la costumbre, la arquitectura y la ideología. Derribar el heteropatriarcado aparece aquí como una tarea estéril y un poco ridícula: un combate contra formas de poder que persisten incluso cuando son señaladas, cuestionadas o atacadas.
La pieza propone una tensión entre lo material y lo inmaterial, entre la insistencia del gesto y su falta de consecuencia tangible. El cuerpo insiste allí donde no puede vencer.
ENG/ TO RAISE A SANCTUARY ONE MUST DESTROY A SANCTUARY
This public-space action concludes a series of exercises that reflect on the form of the bollard as a figure of masculine power embedded in the city. The title echoes a phrase from On the Genealogy of Morality: “To raise a sanctuary, one must destroy a sanctuary.”
The action consists of attempting to destroy a concrete bollard through an insistent sequence of hammer blows. The body commits itself to the task of toppling the object, yet fails to alter it. No material effect is produced: the bollard remains immobile, intact, and indifferent.
The work addresses fruitless effort and the physical and symbolic wear involved in confronting structures hardened by habit, architecture, and ideology. Bringing down the heteropatriarchy appears here as a sterile and somewhat absurd task: a struggle against forms of power that persist even when they are exposed, questioned, or attacked.
The piece proposes a tension between the material and the immaterial, between the insistence of the gesture and its lack of tangible consequence. The body persists where it cannot prevail.
